1.        Can I look at my photos– Do you send photos automatically, or do I have to order them from the web?

Unless your account is set up to order from the

web page, you will be mailed 2-8x10s, just as

we have done since 1969. When you pose for a

photo you have ordered that photo.

         See option

        #14 for electronic images.

The only image that are posted to the web page, are those

mailed orders or those available to be ordered.  Photos are

posted on the webpage after the entire show is mailed. If

wish to see other photos taken of that win, we can make

          arrangements.

2.   Why are my photos not on the website?

.  We start mailing the day after a weekend, and it make take us some time to finish the mailing of that weekend.  After all that is going to be mailed, has been mailed, the website is updated.  ( Example – show takes place on the 1st & 2nd of the month…That means the photos will post to the website on the 13th or 14th, because they were mailed out on the 11th and 12th.). Rush service is available  on Tues, Weds, or Thurs. as is FedX service. You will need a credit card on file for the latter.

All the final photos are on our website. If another photographer took your photo, look at their website; oops, they don’t have one!

3.   I wanted something other than the default 8x10s?

This is an issue that should be addressed at the time the photo is taken, since the industry standard is 2-8x10s, and anything else cannot be anticipated without your assistance.

4. Are there other shots of my win?

Probably. Send an email request if you wish to see other shots. We may be able to send you low – rez images as time permits, or a proof sheet of the shots for $25.

5. Why is my last check/payment not posted?

Our first job to take good photos. Our next job is to send those photos.  After that, payments are posted. If you mailed a check, but it did not get to us, we cannot post it to your account. Your best option is to have your account set up to automatically charge to an on file credit card, which, both gives you the Day of Show Discount, and removes any consideration of billing from us.

6. Can I use the photo in my personal ad?

Personal advertisements in publications are only allowable, as per the 1988 Berne Convention, with the permission of the, that's us and you have it, AND use of an original print. You may not use scans or copies of the prints, but only an original from Cook PhoDOGraphy/MyDogPhoto.com. The various publications have been notified, and if they receive a scan or a copy of a print they will notify us, and we will not allow its use. If you wish additional copies for advertising, or if you wish a publication to receive an electronically transmitted image, please contact us.

7. What is the copyright?

Copyright is an International covenant, wherein, while one may own the individual print, one does not, unless a license has been purchased, own the image upon the print. Much as one may own a book the words within the book are owned by the copyright holder. All you own is the individual copy of the book; you own a copy of the photograph, but the image remains under control of the photographer whose name, after all, appears on the photo. If you wish to have additional prints, beyond your original order, then we can work out special prices for many copies if that is your need. If you wish to give a copy to another person, such as a judge, then it makes good sense that the people, to whom you are giving a copy, if they deserve your regard, certainly deserve an original print from the artist.  For more information go to www.whatiscopyright.org.

8. Can you 'fix' something in a photo?

Yes, such as a hair out of place, or some objectionable background problem. However, please do not expect us to change your dog to be something that the judge did not put up, or that should be bred for. Especially, do not ask us to work on the product of another photographer.

9. It has been awhile and I still do not have my photograph.

Good implied question, and there is, likely, a very good reason- The first thing that goes out after a show, are the rush orders (people who have deadlines and we are trying to help them make them). Afterwards, the orders are printed by one person in the order they were shot, and mailed by another person, as they are processed. Warren is the former, and Victoria is the latter. If Victoria finds that she wants a print redone, it is integrated in current work, and will go out with that work. After the show is, according to first glance, completely mailed, then Victoria give Warren any invoices that, somehow, did not have photos to go with them, and those photos are printed. Usually, we can be fairly swift; however, as you may imagine, there will be times that several shows will overlap, and it is at this time, before you are behind a deadline, but in genuine need of an order, that you should contact us, that we may put your order higher on the stack. Also, it is possible that another photographer shot the photo, but not always. We, too, make mistakes.  If you have a Post Office Box, I can guarantee that sometimes, often, your mailer has been put in the wrong box, and you need to check with them – this solves 99% of all these problems.

10. I received the photo from one day, but not other. Where is my other photo?

Unless otherwise instructed, we mail out the photos as they are ready, without holding one day up for another. Otherwise your question would have been, "...Where are  any of my photos?"

11. Can you bring my photos to the next dog show?

While we would like to do this for our clients, it is a fact that we are there to cover the dog show rings the best we can, and not distribute photos, while ignoring the rings. We have found the majority of clients enjoy receiving their orders in the safety and comfort of their homes and businesses.

12. Can you rush my photos?

Yes, we can for a $20 rush service charge. You need to provide a FedEx account number or a credit cards' information, so that our rush effort gets to you as soon as you need it. Priority Mail, while good for large items, such as fifty prints in an envelope, takes two to three days longer than First Class Mail, according to the Wall Street Journal, so it is a waste of time and money on your part.

PLEASE NOTE: Expedited methods are carried out at the time of shipment and do NOT include production time. For example, if a product has a 2 day production time and you choose FEDX 2nd Day Air, you would receive the product in 4 days.

13. Can you email a photograph to a magazine?

Yes, we can. The cost is the same as an original order when sent to a magazine or advertising agency, subsequent to purchase of the original enlargements, and is a prepaid service.

< Back to the Menu >

14. Can you email me the photo or send me the photo on a CD-ROM?

Yes we can, and is an option to be paid the day of the show, or ordered from our website.  When the time factor is critical, we recommend this option.  Turnaround during normal office hours is about twenty minutes or less for you to have the image ‘in hand’.

  .

15. How long do you keep your negatives?

We have images on file since 1969, a total of 1. 8 million images. However, for orders previous to July of 2000, we will sell you the negative for a cost similar to an enlargement. Thus, the copyright will go to you, and you can make as many prints or Christmas cards from them as you wish.

16. I cannot find my photo on your website?

Beyond the obvious possibility that we did not do the photo, there are times where the photo may be overlooked while configuring the upload to the website. If you had a photo taken by us, and you have not received it, and it is not on the website, then an amazing set of circumstances has occurred, and it would be good to get back to us, so that we can try to resolve the matter. Perhaps an armband number was recorded incorrectly, so that the photo when elsewhere. Let us know.

17. Do you shoot film or digital?

The actual recording of the image is digital. The final print, however, is a result of processing from a negative, and the actual print is a silver - halide regular photograph printed on Kodak Professional photographic paper. The reason we record digitally, is because it gives us a more precise image, and allows the final photograph to NOT be a result of developing film in environmental and physically - dangerous chemicals. The negatives are larger than the usual negative, resulting in images that are more crisp, have better definition, better color, and prints that have a minimum life expectancy of seventy - five years (75). The usual chemically - produced print lasts about twenty - five years, as it has 1/10th as much silver as our prints. Let us not confuse this with ink - jet prints from small digital cameras, which are comprised of many little dots. The prints we produce are regular photographs with extraordinary life expectancy.

18. My publication will not accept digital prints.

As these are not digital prints, but, rather, regular prints produced from an image that was captured in a digital format in camera, this does not apply herein. What has happened is that sometimes people have submitted ink - jet prints, which, while appearing acceptable to the Human eye, do not reproduce. The confusion of terminology is gradually disappearing, and there have been no publications unable to work with our prints, including Dog News, Purebred Dogs in Review, the AKC Gazette, as well as the Lupine Collar and Leash catalogue, and the pamphlet from AKC on how to establish a Dog Park. Since December 2001, all photos produced in National Geographic are digital source material.

19. I have an unpaid balance so you probably don't want to shoot my picture.

This is not true. We never have, nor will we ever, bring matters of the office into your ring. We understand that there are times that things may get a little behind. If you wish to pay for the photo on the day it was taken, we will wait until we have resolved the previous problem until we mail out the new order, but you will still receive the day of show discount. Even though this is a business for us, this is you hobby so let us help you enjoy it.

20. Why do I need to order my photo off of the website?

You have special needs, and you have expressed them by returning photos that did not fill those needs. Rather than expose you to photos you do not wish to have, and to avoid having enlargements used a proofs, we have devised the policy for some clients, to allow them to view their photos first on our webpage, then order what they wish, and only what they wish.

21. I did not get a 'Pay Day of Show' form at the show.

We started this program in 1981, in order to BOTH, give a discount for prepaid orders, and to give clients an opportunity to order something different than the 'industry standard' of 2-8x10s. It must work, because we have seen invoices from other photographers that not only emulate our forms, but copy them, word for word, and are within a few cents of our prices. If you were not handed a form when the photo was taken, you can pick one up at the announcers' stand, fill it out before the end of the weekend.

22. How long have you been doing this?

Victoria got her first camera in 1957 when she was nine years old. She started doing photos in the ring in 1969. Warren joined the business full time in 1983. His professional photographic activities included a good deal of underwater work in the 1970's while a marine biologist.

23. I mailed in my Day of Show Payment.

An implied question as to whether or not this is ok or not. Yes it IS ok to mail your Day of Show Payment, as long as you include another $5, which is the NOT paid day of show payment price, but IS the paid promptly price. You can do this by mail, or by email and credit card, or you can use Pay Pal.

24. Was this the best photo?

Among dog show photographers, this is often a subject of conversation: "...Did you send me the best one?" You need to be specific as to what it is that would be different than the photo you received, for us to analyze as to whether or not some other negative would better fulfill your desires. Of course, if you use a photographer that just takes one shot of each win, all bets are off.

25. How dare you mail me a photo that is not mine!

It is a good general practice that only your photos will be mailed to you. Sometimes we make a mistake. Just seal up the envelope, write "Not Mine" on the outside, and drop it into a mailbox. We will take care of the rest. And, thank you.

26. Do you send proofs?

.      This is a custom service, and, of course we can. However, everything is posted on the webpage, so it is likely that you can inspect and choose with the first 48 hours, if you like. Should you wish proof sheets, the cost is $22 per win.

27. How long do you keep your negatives (images)?

We have all our images on files since 1969, some 1,8 million  individual files.

28. Why are colors sometimes different in the photo, than in reality, especially fabric?

A couple of things: 1. the Inverse Square Law describes the fact that a person standing 4 inches behind a dog (handler's position) will receive 1/16th the amount of light as does the shoulder of the dog, thus, the person is underexposed, and color rendering is not accurate. 2. Flash used in photography, is described in degrees of temperature, and we have chosen flash units that are somewhat warm, at about 5200 degrees Kelvin, as apposed to 6000 degrees, thus giving our photos a little more warmth, as apposed to a blue-green tinge, which is unattractive in skin tones, but which, also, changes how fabrics are read, especially synthetic ones 3. When we print, we print first for the dogs, then for everything else. We will try to print so that your clothing is accurate, but that is not where we look first. 4. Kodak paper is quite accurate and that is how it is chosen for almost any professional photographer doing live work. If you wish something different, let us know.

29. How do I receive credit for a returned order?

Each photograph is a custom production specific to you the customer- there is no secondary market for pictures that you decide you don't want. As such, we do not offer a credit for returned photographs. If, however, you would like us to do artwork to correct something you deem  needs attention, or color balance issues,  that IS available.  If you are still in doubt as to what you wish to see in a photograph you have purchased, please let us know and we will move your account to online proof only status so that you will never receive a photograph you haven't first viewed online. No credit will be given for returns and the service is due and payable.

If these above FAQs did not answer your questions, perhaps you need to call. The best time to reach us is Tues and Weds from 10 to 7 PST. 541-831-1042
